Best Time to Visit Qatar: Month-by-Month Weather, Events & Prices

November to March is the sweet spot — here is what every month feels like, what it costs and what is on.

Qatar has two seasons: a glorious winter from November to March and a hot summer from May to September, with short shoulder months either side. Which one you land in changes what a day out feels like more than in most destinations, so here is the honest month-by-month picture from the people who drive the dunes every week.

November to March: the season to come

Days sit in the low-to-mid twenties, evenings drop to 15–18°C in the desert (bring a light jacket for the camp), and the sky is clear. This is when the sunset safari to the Inland Sea, an afternoon on the Corniche and dinner at Souq Waqif all work in one day. It is also festival season: the Qatar International Food Festival, the Doha Jewellery show, Formula 1 at Lusail in late November and the Qatar National Day celebrations on 18 December.

Book desert safaris and airport transfers at least 3–5 days ahead between mid-December and early January; it is our busiest fortnight of the year.

April and October: warm shoulder months

Still very good value. Mornings and evenings are pleasant; the middle of the day is for museums, Msheireb, the National Museum or a pool. Desert trips move to a 3 pm pickup so you arrive at the dunes as the heat breaks, and dhow cruises are best after 5 pm. Hotel rates are 20–30% below peak.

May to September: hot, but not a write-off

Afternoon highs of 40°C-plus with humidity from the Gulf. Qatar handles it: the whole city is air-conditioned, from the metro to the souq's covered lanes. What changes is timing. We run desert safaris at dawn (6 am pickup, back by 10) or as overnight trips that start after 4 pm; dhow cruises sail at 8 pm; city tours start at 8 am and finish with an indoor lunch. Summer is also when hotels drop to their lowest rates and the Qatar Summer Festival fills the malls with events for families.

Ramadan and Eid

Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year (in 2027 it begins around 8 February). Daytime eating and drinking in public is not allowed, restaurants open after sunset and the city comes alive late. Tours run as usual — guides simply plan a discreet lunch stop — and evenings are the highlight, with iftar tents, Souq Waqif open past midnight and the desert camp under lanterns. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha bring three to four days of public holiday when hotels and tours are busy; book early.

What to pack, by season

• Winter: light layers, a jacket for desert evenings and dhow decks, closed shoes for sandboarding.
• Summer: loose long sleeves, a hat, SPF 50 and 1.5 litres of water per person (we carry extra in every vehicle).
• Year-round: modest cover for mosques and souqs — shoulders and knees — and swimwear for hotel pools and the Inland Sea.

Our recommendation

If you can choose, come between mid-November and early March. If your dates are fixed in summer, still come — plan mornings and evenings outdoors, afternoons indoors, and let us shift pickup times. Month by month

Cheapest vs best

Cheapest: July and August — hotels at half price, tours run at dawn and after dark. Best value with good weather: late October, early November, and mid-February to March, when hotels are 20–30% below December and the desert is glorious. Most expensive: the two weeks around National Day and New Year.
