Six hours is not enough for a desert safari, but it is exactly enough for the best of the city — provided you treat the clock seriously. This is the itinerary we run for layover guests, with the buffers built in.

Minute by minute
- 1 0:00 — Land. Follow 'Transfer → Exit to Doha', use the e-gates if eligible.
- 2 0:45 — Driver meets you at arrivals with a name board; bags in the car.
- 3 1:00 — Corniche: five minutes at the Pearl Monument for the skyline photo.
- 4 1:15 — Museum of Islamic Art: 50 minutes with the guide — atrium, north window, three galleries.
- 5 2:10 — MIA Park viewpoint, then walk across to Souq Waqif.
- 6 2:20 — Souq Waqif: spice and falcon souqs, a karak, 15 minutes of shopping.
- 7 3:20 — Drive past the National Museum and West Bay towers on the way back.
- 8 3:45 — Drop at departures; 2 h 15 min to boarding.
What to skip on 6 hours
The desert (needs 7+ hours), Lusail (too far north), the National Museum interior (2 hours on its own). Friday mornings are the exception to everything: the souq is closed until 4 pm, so we substitute Katara and the Corniche.
Doing it on your own vs a tour
On your own: metro Red Line from the airport to Msheireb (25 minutes) then walk to the souq — cheap, but you lose 40 minutes each way and any delay is your problem. Eating on a layover
Ask the guide for a 20-minute stop rather than a sit-down meal: a shawarma and karak in the souq (QAR 15) or a Qatari breakfast plate at Shay Al Shomous. Airport food afterwards is expensive and mediocre; eat in the city.
Luggage, money and SIM
- Hand luggage rides in the vehicle; nothing is left unattended.
- You need no cash — cards work everywhere; an ATM is in arrivals if you want QAR 100 for tips and the souq.
- Airport Wi-Fi is free; a tourist SIM (QAR 50) at arrivals takes 5 minutes if you want maps and WhatsApp in the city.
- Keep your onward boarding pass; if you do not have it, the transfer desk in departures prints it in seconds.

Yes. Allow 45 minutes to clear immigration and 2 hours to be back before departure; that leaves about 3 hours in the city — enough for the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif and the Corniche with a private driver.
